Department of Medicine

Introduction

Welcome to the department of Medicine. Apart from the main aim of teaching the undergraduate medical students our Department is committed in teaching all categories of other health care professionals at all levels (visiting foreign elective students, post graduate, and nursing professional education). We have developed  a new curriculum that is appropriate for the education of health care providers in the many decades to come.

The Department of Medicine is actively engaged in the care of patients from the local community around Colombo South teaching hospital. We provide good range of sub-specialty and specialist care in most specialties to many patients living in this area. This care is delivered in conjunction with clinical research programs and the clinical education of medical students, house officers and post graduates in a manner that strives for the highest levels of patient satisfaction and professionalism. The Department is committed to the quality of this practice and to the satisfaction of our patients.

Maintaining a balance between the demands of such a practice and the needs of the research and educational elements are an ongoing challenge and one that the Department of Medicine is committed to meet.
